Zac wins 1st place in The Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge

The Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge is a competition to find the best and brightest trainee electricians in New Zealand. Etco apprentice from Aotea Electric Southern, Zachary Fitzgerald-Geddes, took away the top award.

The Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge is an annual competition for all apprentices in the New Zealand electrical industry with less than 45months on-job training. The competition is split into two divisions; Commercial/Residential and Industrial, and competitors are put through a series of technical challenges that test their ability to perform in situations they are likely to face as qualified electricians. Approximately 120 electricians compete in the Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge each year.

The competition hosted 10 regional preliminary competitions, including the completion of four modules - wiring lights and switches, finding faults in installation, building switchboards and working with conduits. After the heats, the top 5 performing apprentices in each division from the preliminary competitions were invited to compete in the final competition at the Master Electricians National Conference in Nelson.

Zachary Fitzgerald-Geddes, Etco apprentice from Aotea Electric Southern, was awarded the winner of the Commercial and Domestic Section at the J.A. Russell Ltd Awards Dinner held at the Trafalgar Centre on Saturday 5 October 2019 and will represent New Zealand at the WorldSkills International Competition next year. We would like to offer a huge congratulations to Zac for such an incredible achievement. Zac has since been offered a full-time position with Aotea, and we are excited about the skills he brings to the team now and well into our future.
