Queenstown Airport

Driven by the increasing tourist numbers flocking to Queenstown, there was an urgent requirement for the Queenstown Airport Corporation to add 4,000m² of terminal space that almost doubled the size of the airport’s international operations. Aotea Electric Queenstown were there to help.

The Queenstown Airport extension included international arrival and departure lounges, a new Customs processing area, expanded airside retail outlets, a third-baggage carousel and back-of-house handling. A new mezzanine floor was built to allow for future developments such as gate lounges, retail space and air bridges. Additional to this, the terminal was to be packed with the latest and greatest technology.

Aotea Electric Queenstown was awarded the challenge of completing this fast track project while having to maintain the integrity of the existing building and services. Using past experience and calling on the skilled management and electrical team, the project was successfully completed on time and under budget, just in time for the start of the Queenstown Ski Season. All whilst the operational terminal remained live, requiring extensive pre-planning, sequencing and staging of the works to ensure minimal disruption for the airport, its retail tenancies, the airlines and passengers.
