Powering New Zealand's First IKEA Store

Aotea Electric Auckland is proud to have delivered the electrical and communications works for New Zealand's first IKEA store.

A landmark project that brought together their Contracts, Data & Communications and Interiors divisions in a truly combined team effort.

The scope was extensive. Works included new mains reticulation with two parallel transformers, a UPS system, general power, lighting with smart controls, security access control and CCTV and a complete data system with a fibre backbone.

A key element of the project was the installation of a Distributed Antenna System (DAS) by the Auckland Data & Communications team, which significantly boosted mobile coverage throughout the store and made a real difference to the in-store experience.

Project scale highlights include:

  • Installation of 5,794 light fittings
  • Termination of 1,659 power points
  • Installation of 20 switchboards and one mainboard
  • 43,900 metres of cable
  • Installation of 9,834 metres of cable tray

Projects of this scale don't happen without serious coordination and a team that delivers under pressure. A great result from everyone involved at Aotea Electric Auckland.
