Fifteen years after delivering all electrical works for the original build as part of a joint venture between 2008 and 2010, Aotea Electric Southern returned to Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium to complete a full lighting upgrade.
Aotea Electric Southern Ltd delivered a landmark lighting upgrade at Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr Stadium, replacing the original metal halide sports lighting with a state‑of‑the‑art LED system that meets international broadcast standards.
Completed within a tight 16‑week programme, the project involved the removal and recycling of 213 legacy luminaires, and the installation of 262 Philips ArenaVision LED sports lights alongside a new crowd experience lighting system.
The upgrade has significantly improved illumination levels, enhanced game‑day atmosphere, and provided the stadium with flexible, DMX‑controlled lighting for sporting events and major productions. Delivered through meticulous planning, innovative solutions for working at height and close collaboration with local partners, the project has improved energy efficiency, reduced power consumption and created a unique lighting experience unmatched by any other stadium in New Zealand.
