Aotea Electric Southern were engaged to complete the electrical, communications, data and fire alarms services for the conversion of the Old Chief Post Office building into a brand new 4.5 star Distinction Hotel in the Dunedin CBD.
The Old Chief Post Office in Dunedin was built in 1937 and is a historic Dunedin landmark. After sitting vacant for a number of years a proposed hotel development was finally underway.
Aotea Electric Southern were engaged for all the electrical, communications, data and fire alarms services at the early stages of the project. We worked closely alongside the developer during the design phase to ensure the outcome was well considered, met his expectations and was of a high quality and value.
The historic exterior and certain interior features remained and were utilised in the design to complete a project that had a unique finish with a blend of top quality modern rooms in a character filled building.
The initial stage comprised the ground and first level which had a commercial tenant fit out. This tenant occupied the building throughout the remainder of the hotel development from the basement to the rooftop. The old unused basement cash vaults were converted into themed private dining rooms for a unique culinary experience.
Tight project timeframes meant a team effort from everyone at Aotea to ensure the Distinction Dunedin Hotel opened on time.
