At Aotea Electric Ashburton, we’re a locally owned business with a strong mix of industrial and commercial work throughout Mid Canterbury. We work with local businesses, contractors and organisations to keep their operations running, solve problems and deliver quality electrical work they can rely on.
We’re growing and looking for an experienced Industrial/Commercial Electrician to join our team.

What will you be doing?

No two days are exactly the same. You’ll be working across a variety of industrial and commercial sites, tackling challenges, finding practical solutions and getting involved in work that makes a real difference to our customers.

Your work will include:

• Industrial and commercial electrical installations, upgrades and maintenance.
• Fault finding, diagnostics and repairs across a range of electrical systems.
• Working on switchboards, machinery, equipment and control systems, depending on your experience.
• Testing, commissioning and ensuring work meets the required standards.
• Carrying out preventative maintenance and helping customers minimise downtime.
• Reading electrical plans and working through technical problems.
• Liaising with customers, contractors and other trades on site.
• Completing job documentation and keeping your work organised.
• Working independently when required and supporting the wider team when needed.

There’s a good variety of work, so if you enjoy using your skills, solving problems and getting stuck into different challenges, you’ll feel right at home.

What are we looking for?

We’re after someone who knows their trade, takes pride in their workmanship and can be trusted to get the job done right.

You’ll ideally have:

• A New Zealand electrical qualification, current registration and a practising licence.
• Experience in industrial and/or commercial electrical work.
• Good fault-finding skills and a practical, solutions-focused approach.
• The ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and plans.
• A good understanding of electrical standards, testing and safe working practices.
• The confidence to work independently, manage your time and use your initiative.
• Good communication skills and a professional approach with customers and colleagues.

Experience with industrial machinery, motor controls, switchboards, control systems or preventative maintenance would be an advantage. Just as importantly, we want someone reliable, approachable and willing to be part of a team. You don’t need to know everything, but you do need to care about doing a good job.
